ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND CONTINUOUS IMPROVMENT

Based on our certifications and corporate policies, we regularly review our operational areas and processes and identify opportunities for further improvement. As part of this process, we also take environmental aspects into account and assess existing processes and measures to determine where improvements may be appropriate.

The following sections provide an overview of selected measures and processes implemented at Natzan Packaging in the areas of energy and resource management, waste, transport, products, and the operational environment.

Waste prevention and recovery

Natzan Packaging plans production processes with the aim of using all our raw materials responsively and efficiently. By coordinating and bundling orders into suitable production runs, we can reduce material offcuts and avoid unnecessary material losses.

Careful sequencing of orders also helps to limit material consumption during production setup and start-up. These measures are designed to reduce avoidable material waste arising during manufacturing.

All waste generated during production is systematically recorded and, where appropriate, directed to recycling or other suitable recovery processes. We work with certified waste management companies to ensure the proper handling and treatment of the waste generated. A coordinated waste management plan defines the procedures for the collection, handling, recovery, and disposal of production waste.

All employees receive training on the proper handling and segregation of waste. Separate collection and the subsequent routing of waste to appropriate recovery or disposal channels are integral parts of our operational processes.

By systematically recording and appropriately routing production waste, Natzan Packaging makes use of available recovery and recycling options where suitable and ensures that waste is handled through the appropriate channels.

Customer and product

The flexible packaging solutions developed by Natzan Packaging are designed to support space-efficient storage and transport. Their flexible design allows the products to be used and stored according to specific requirements and application needs.

Our products are developed, approved, and marketed in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and relevant guidelines, as well as established standards for regulatory compliance.

A quality management system supports the monitoring and assurance of product quality, taking into account relevant product requirements and safe use. Products are developed and monitored in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements relating to product safety and material compliance.

For transport packaging, we consider the specific requirements of the respective application and follow the principle of using as much packaging as necessary and as little as reasonably possible.

Fleet

Natzan Packaging operates its own fleet of company vehicles, which are used, among other purposes, for transportation between its two sites. By coordinating employee transportation, journeys between the plants can be efficiently consolidated.

The two sites are located approximately 9 kilometers apart. Due to the short distance, inter-site transfers can be carried out efficiently using the company’s own vehicles and trailers. This enables Natzan Packaging to manage transportation between the sites largely in-house while providing the flexibility to supplement internal transport capacities with external logistics service providers as required.

At both sites, electric forklifts and electric pallet trucks are used for internal material handling. This allows transport and handling activities within the plants to be carried out using electrically powered industrial trucks.

Suppliers

Regional proximity is one of the factors considered when selecting our suppliers and service providers. Both suppliers of direct and indirect materials, as well as service providers, are predominantly located in the region. Approximately 68% of our procurement volume is sourced from suppliers located within a 50-kilometer radius. Across Germany as a whole, we source almost 80% of our requirements domestically, while 98% are sourced from within Europe.

Specific call-off quantities are taken into account during the planning and scheduling process. Where operationally appropriate, deliveries are coordinated and consolidated, taking available transport capacities and full truckloads into consideration.

We also use digital processes for delivery-related documentation. Delivery documents are transmitted and processed digitally, avoiding paper-based documentation for these processes.

Neighbors and Surroundings

We take the impact of our operations on the immediate surroundings into account in our day-to-day activities. Our manufacturing processes are organized with the aim of avoiding unnecessary odors and dust emissions.

Forklift and truck traffic is generally limited to daytime operating hours. Deliveries and collections generally take place during the day shift, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Operational activities are planned to observe applicable nighttime quiet hours, and work at weekends is limited as far as operational requirements permit.

Site lighting is used according to operational requirements and is controlled by timers and motion sensors outside regular operating hours.

Through these organizational and operational measures, we take the immediate surroundings into account when planning and carrying out our activities.

Employees and workplace safety

Responsible use of energy and resources, as well as proper waste management, begins with everyday working practices. Therefore, all employees receive regular training on relevant topics such as the efficient use of energy and heating systems, as well as proper waste separation. In addition, training and instruction are provided on occupational safety, fire protection and first aid.

Water dispensers and reusable drinking bottles are available to employees. This helps reduce the use of single-use packaging for beverages.

For employees working in production and shipping, Natzan Packaging provides the required workwear and safety footwear.

The health and well-being of employees are also taken into consideration. Regular preventive health services, including hearing and vision screening, support occupational health care and help identify potential health risks at an early stage.

Mechanical Engineering

At Natzan Packaging, machines are adapted to market requirements and further developed within our in-house mechanical engineering department. The systems are designed and manufactured on-site using a modular approach. This allows individual components and system parts to be reconfigured as required and, where suitable, reused in other applications.

When machines or components are decommissioned, their potential for further use is assessed. Components that may be suitable for reuse are temporarily stored and only sent for disposal when further use is no longer considered appropriate or feasible. Disposal is carried out through a specialist waste management company.

Process waste generated during mechanical engineering and maintenance activities, such as cutting and drilling, is collected separately and transferred to appropriate recovery or disposal channels through suitable service providers.

The potential for reuse is therefore considered when planning, operating, and decommissioning machines and components. Materials and waste are separately collected and, where appropriate, directed to suitable recovery or disposal processes.

Energy and resources

Energy and resource management is considered in our day-to-day operations across various areas of the company.

Water consumption at our sites is limited to uses such as cleaning production and office areas and personal hygiene.

LED lighting is used throughout our company premises. In passageways and corridors, motion sensors control the lighting, switching it on and off as required.

Energy requirements are also taken into account when operating our machinery and equipment. As machines can require increased amounts of energy during start-up, they are generally only fully shut down at weekends. Machine operation also includes electrically powered systems such as compressed-air units.

At our Kattenvenne site, a significant proportion of the electricity required is generated by an in-house rooftop photovoltaic system.

Our machinery and equipment are subject to regular, preventive, and documented maintenance. This supports operational reliability and helps identify and address potential issues at an early stage.
